By starting with colleges, Former President of Facebook, Sean Parker explains how Facebook was able to authenticate their user's email addresses. In college, typically students are each issued one .edu email address. This helped enforce a one person one identity token. By using algorithmic proxies and distinctions behind the scenes to determine who users are better friends with, Facebook serves News Feeds biased towards people you're interacting with more. Had MySpace or Friendster gotten social media right Facebook wouldn't rule the world today, but it undeniably does!
